So Long Our Friend

We put Gus down on April 14th after he had a bad week with multiple seizures. After almost two years of trying to stabilize him we either had a very doped up dog, unable to function very well, or not enough drugs and seizures all the time. It was a no win situation for all three of us. I have always been crushed putting my dogs down in the past but this has been incredibly hard this time. My only hope is he is somewhere seizure free able to swim his brains out with no ill effects and also have his athletic and smarts back to 100% as it was at three years old. It took me one and a half weeks to write this but as the pain slowly subsides I can say if I was offered his life back in the sick stage I would refuse. Until we see you again, Good Night, Buddy Boy.

Gus Cries BS on Global Warming

Gus is not having much fun these days as the continuing bitter cold and 4 foot of snow hampers play time. We are hoping the weather breaks soon and we can resume some long walks and playtime outside.

The Last Boat Fest of the Season

This is probably  Gus's last boat ride of the year . He loves riding on the platform and is waiting patiently for the photo op to end so he can get back to the business of swimming and exploring .

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GUS!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday to our boy. Hard to believe he is 4 years old today. Two trips to the park to swim (and photo shoot) and plenty of canned dog food in with his kibble. Not a bad day for him!

Taking a break in the shade. It is and has been so hot that I make sure he gets in the water to keep cool. No arguments from Gus.

Gus's swimming hole in the background and flowers everywhere.

Even the flowers look hot and thirsty.

Gus seems to be saying "all right, I took the stupid photos, lets swim"

Finally, pay dirt....or should I say water. He has trouble swimming on his anti seizure medicine. His back legs don't want to work right. I want to cry sometimes watching him as he was so athletic before he started having seizures about one year ago. These damn drugs keep him doped up. Sometimes, when looking into his eyes, I think he is as sad as me as he knows he isn't functioning right. Ang and I still love him dearly. Happy Birthday # 4 Buddy Boy!!!

I am Pretty.....but not a happy camper

I gave Gus his tick and flea prevention today so he doesn't get to swim for a day so the stuff can soak in. No worries, he will be back at the old swimming hole tomorrow afternoon.

Varmits beware!!!!!

Gus loves to watch out the windows for anything that dares to come in "HIS" yard. He also cries as he watches either myself or his mom leave in the car. It is not the lake but he likes the view anyway.

It's a dogs life

Gus is catching up on some sleep. The vet is switching his seizure medicine and he is really groggy and out of it. I can't wait until the switch is complete so I can have my boy back.

SPRING HAS SPRUNG FOR GUS 2013!!!

Our boy hits the water hard. He loves his job.

You can see the rain drops hitting the water.
Gus doesn't mind, he is getting wet anyway!

Our boy loves to swim. He was happy to start swimming even though it is a little chilly.

My HOOOSIERS are #1 seed in the Big Dance Baby!

I am ready to rock and roll. Dad and I watch every game and now it is for all the marbles! When the game starts don't be knocking on our door cuz I will not be happy to see you.

OK, I am not overjoyed to be wearing the hat but I will for dad and my Hoosiers! We have plenty of ice cold beer if we win and a quart of whisky if the unthinkable happens! GO HOOOSIERS!

The long days of March

Not much going on in Gus's world in March but I saw this pretty log and took a photo. Gus and I are awaiting the NCAA tourney and hoping our Hoosiers are about to go on a roll!
